Term 4 basic facts

We have been working on answering basic facts questions quickly and instantly.
I should be working on Stage 5. 

I have passed Stage 4. I got 60 out of 60.

I am now on Stage 5. I got 20/ 60.

Great's & Grand's day 2019

Last Friday we had our Great's &Grand's Day. My Grandma & Grandad came along. we did performances and dancing. We had a delicious morning tea and played games. Here is my poem I wrote for my grandparent.

Garden to Table

In garden to table we weeded and planted some passion fruit and we had a picnic. We ate fritters, kebabs, quiche, and coleslaw.

Science Fair

Yesterday we had our school Science Fair. My Science investigation was about Flight

Musical Instruments

Team Awa made musical instruments using recycled materials.  My musical instrument is made out of a bottle and pop corn. It is a shaker. I painted it blue. I used glue to put on paper so the paint would stay on the bottle.

Koru Art

We made Koru art with Whaea Rose by using paper to draw the Koru, then we cut it out and traced in onto foam.  We used the foam koru as a stamp to make a colourful picture on a white piece of paper.
My koru represents my granddad.
I really like the shape of my korus.

Balloon Hovercraft

This week we learnt how to 

B E G I N N I N G	TITLE	Balloon Hovercraft
	QUESTION	How does a hovercraft hover?
	HYPOTHESIS	I predict that the disc will move across the table.

M I D D L E	EQUIPMENT  AND MATERIALS:	CD bottle cap and dvd and balloon.
	PROCEDURE:	Step 1: glue the bottle cap over the cd hole. Step 2: Blow up the balloon. When it is fully inflated twist the end so no air comes out. Step 3: Stretch the balloon over the end of the bottle cap.  Step 4: Open up the cap and place the CD on the surface.   Step 5: Untwist balloon and let go.
	OBSERVATIONS/RESULTS:	The disc moved on the table.

CONCLUSION:

The air from the balloon creates a cushion of moving air between the disc and the cd and reduces the friction across the surface.

Writing

For the last two weeks we have been working on writing speeches. 

My topic was technology.

We had to present them in front of our class. 

I think all of it is good.

Technology

Have you ever wondered why we have so much technology? Technology can be TVs, phones, tablets and laptops. I believe if kids have too much technology it will be bad for them.

Firstly, some people say that people go blind by watching screens too much, that isn’t actually real. But, your eyes could go blurry and you might have to wear glasses.

Secondly, Technology can be so addictive. Games, shows, ads, and other things can hook people in. Why is it so addictive when you play it or watch? The more you play or watch, the more you want to play and watch.

Finally, we should spend more time outside because if you stay inside you could get fat from sitting on the couch too much. Spending more time outside is good for your body.

 This is why I believe that technology is bad, it is not good for kids. Kids should be playing board

Maths book

For maths this week we read a book called One is a snail ten is a crab. We then worked in groups to create our own version. My book is called 1 is a worm, 10 is a octopus and a chicken.

Moon Rover

For science we made a Moon rover lander using only a

paper cup, paper, cellotape and straws.  

We were given the task of making our Moon rover

land softly onto our Moon landscape so that our

marsh-mellow astronauts did not fly out.

What I like best about my Moon rover is that I like all of it.

What I needed to modify on my Moon lander rover

was nothing. I like it.

One thing I learned about landing on the Moon is that it is exciting and it looks cool.

Today we learnt how to create a mine craft style character in google sheet. We created an Alien. Here is mine.

ANZAC POEM

We listen to a poem called ANZAC Poem. We had to create an illustration to go with the poem. I built a base out of blocks and made poppies. The Soldier is hiding in the base with his gun.

Giant soup

We read a story called Giant Soup. We had to write a recipe on how to make Giant Soup. When you have added all the ingredients you have to add water and boil it for a few hours.

These are my Basic Facts results for the end of Term One.

I am working on Stage 4. I got 50 out of 60.

For maths we have been working in mixed ability groups to solve problems. The focus has been solving word problems using place value. We have to select thge correct the correct strategy to solve the problem. I have chosen two problems to show you how I work them out. 

I find addition easy.

We have been using Hector's World to learn to be safe online.

Environmental Writing

We sketched our bean plants that we grew in class. We then wrote words around the outside to describe the bean plant. We had to use these words to write a piece of descriptive writing. We then cut out our picture and glued it on to your writing. Here is my writing.

them in the right place on our face. For our background we typed our full name
